Hi I'm back! I am going to conclude all the research and info that I have been talking to you about over the past few blog posts. My first post was about why and how the greeks worshiped Hera, and we found out that they worshiped her because they wanted to have a good marriage and they wanted their children to be safe. In my second post I talked about a myth about how Hera got two of her famous symbols, the cow and the peacock. This shows what happens when you mess with Hera's Husband. In my third and final post was about which city Hera was the Parton goddess of. That city was called Argos and Io was a princess in that city. Poseidon and Hera fought over Argos. I find it important to know about Ancient Greece to understand what impacts they left on our world today. I learned that Greeks were very creative and that they made up these myths and gods to understand the world around them.
Another topic I want to discuss is The city of Argos. Which is located in eastern Peloponnese in Greece. This is the city where Hera is the Parton goddess. A Parton god or goddess is when the people in the city respect that god more than anyone else. In greek mythology Hera and Poseidon both wanted to be Argos's Parton god or goddess. But when Hera was chosen Poseidon was mad so he flooded Argos, and Hera didn't like that so she told Poseidon to take away the water and he did but he took away all the water so Argos was very dry. Hera was mad once again, so she told him to put the water back. And he did but Argos is still a pretty dry place. The reason Hera is the Parton goddess is because people want their children to be safe and they want to have a good marriage, but also i feel they were afraid of her wrath. Also as we talked I the last blog post about Io, she was a princess in Argos. Check in later for my last and final post. :(
Want to learn more about Argos Click here Another topic I want to discuss is The Story of Io. This is a myth about how the cow and peacock became Hera's sacred animals. The myth starts of like this........
There once was a young maiden named Io. Everyone loved her for her beauty and wits. So of course Zeus loved her. He went from the heavens day and day down to see her. When Hera found out why Zeus was gone so much she was mad. So she went down to get revenge on the maiden. Zeus saw her go and knew what she was going to do, so he went down to save Io. He turned her into a cow (Which turns out to be her sacred animal) hoping Hera would not know who the cow was. But Hera knew who the cow was, and she made Zeus give it to her. Once she got the cow she took her and chained her up and sent her watchmen Argus to guard her. Argus was a good watchmen because had not two but one-hundrend eyes! Zeus hated what Hera had done so he sent his son Hermes to kill Argus. So Hermes went when Argus was sleeping, and killed him. Hera was disgraced when she saw what Hermes had done. She took the eyes of her loyal watchmen and put them on the tail of a peacock ( Another one of her sacred animals) and we see the peacock feathers with the eyes today. Want to learn more? Click here Over the next few blog posts I will be focusing on a few specific things to do with Hera. In this blog post i will be talking about the reasons the greeks worshiped Hera. The greeks worship her because she blessed women's marriage and protected their children. When woman was about to have a child she would beg to Hera to protect her child. They also worshiped her because they believe that she would help them have successful marriage and have wonderful children. Hera represents the fullness of life and that there are both light and dark sides to life. If you want to learn more check out my source Click here Hi everyone, My topic is Hera, the queen of the Gods. I chose this topic because I am very interested in Greek Gods. My background in the greek Gods is that I have read the Percy Jackson series, and the Gods interest me very much. Hera in particular is interesting because she is the queen of the Gods, and she has many interesting sacred animals and plants. She also had a big role in the famous myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Over the next few posts I will talk about three things, the first one is Why people worshiped Hera, a myth I found interesting, and which city is she the Parton goddess of. She is not in many other myths so I want to find out her importance. |
