Another topic I want to discuss is The Story of Io. This is a myth about how the cow and peacock became Hera's sacred animals. The myth starts of like this........
There once was a young maiden named Io. Everyone loved her for her beauty and wits. So of course Zeus loved her. He went from the heavens day and day down to see her. When Hera found out why Zeus was gone so much she was mad. So she went down to get revenge on the maiden. Zeus saw her go and knew what she was going to do, so he went down to save Io. He turned her into a cow (Which turns out to be her sacred animal) hoping Hera would not know who the cow was. But Hera knew who the cow was, and she made Zeus give it to her. Once she got the cow she took her and chained her up and sent her watchmen Argus to guard her. Argus was a good watchmen because had not two but one-hundrend eyes! Zeus hated what Hera had done so he sent his son Hermes to kill Argus. So Hermes went when Argus was sleeping, and killed him. Hera was disgraced when she saw what Hermes had done. She took the eyes of her loyal watchmen and put them on the tail of a peacock ( Another one of her sacred animals) and we see the peacock feathers with the eyes today.
